Dr Esther Garcia Gonzalez

Esther Garcia Gonzalez, PhD, works as Microscopy Link Scientist at the Central Laser Facility. She leads the user applications for the Stimulated Emission Depletion (STED) microscope. Esther is Interested in applying advanced quantitative microscopy techniques to resolve the rapid cellular signals that occur in response to chemical and mechanical environmental cues; particularly, in how the plasma membrane and the actin cytoskeleton coordinate the first steps of signal transduction.

Prior to joining STFC, Esther worked as a postdoc at The Beatson Institute (CRUK) in Glasgow where she investigated the spatiotemporal dynamics of early signalling molecules in cancer and immunological cellular models. Before that, she worked in STED microscopy and quantitative fluorescence microscopy at the University of Oxford and at STFC. Esther obtained her BA degree in Biology at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Spain, where she also earned her PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology, before moving to the UK.
