Our location
Research Complex at Harwell is located at the heart of the UK’s cluster of national facilities at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus, Oxfordshire, England.
Being geographically central, it is well connected in all directions: London and Heathrow are just 45-60 minutes away by train to the east; Birmingham, Southampton and Bristol are about 70-90 minutes away to the north, south and west respectively.
The Harwell campus itself is well served with transport links. It’s about 25 minutes’ drive from Oxford, and 15 minutes’ drive from Didcot Parkway railway station. The Science Transit Shuttle provides a frequent minibus service connecting Harwell with Oxford city centre and Redbridge Park and Ride. There are also regular buses from Didcot Parkway to Harwell campus.
The entire campus has been planned as a place where professionals from around the world will choose to come and work. There are more than 225 organisations here, and more than 6,000 people. It is an exciting place to work, truly international, with scientists from all disciplines and at all stages of their careers.
Sport and exercise
With surrounding woodland paths, wide open roads, hills and broad vistas, Harwell is ideal for runners, cyclists and ramblers. Sports facilities onsite include tennis courts and sports fields, with a cricket pitch and pavilion. There are many sports clubs here, including football, rounders, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, archery, running, yoga and an Aunt Sally league.
People from across the site engage in these activities at lunchtime and after work. Those with a competitive streak enjoy the various sports leagues that run during the year. Rutherford Appleton Laboratory has its own sports facilities and offers associate membership for the staff of other organisations based at Harwell. Fitness trainers and health therapists are also available.
Amenities on campus
