Professor Laura Spagnolo
Laura Spagnolo graduated from the University of Trieste, Italy, and performed her doctoral work on protein folding thermodynamics and kinetics at the University of Padova, Italy, and the EMBL-Heidelberg, Germany. After obtaining her PhD, Laura moved back to Trieste for a short postdoc at Elettra, the Italian synchrotron. She then undertook postdoctoral work at the Institute of Cancer Research in London, contributing fundamental information on the structural organisation and macromolecular plasticity of DNA-PK synapses within Non-Homologous End-Joining complexes. Laura established her own research group in 2009 at the University of Edinburgh, where she continued her work on protein:DNA interactions, and developed an interest on extremophilic assemblies and ribonucleoproteins. In 2016, Laura moved to Glasgow, where she is a member of the School of Molecular Biosciences and a founding member of the Scottish Centre for Macromolecular Imaging. She joined Research Complex at Harwell in 2023.
