Dr Éilís Bragginton

Éilís obtained her PhD from the University of Bristol (2019) within the laboratory of Prof. Jim Spencer where she used x-ray crystallography to study the structure and mechanism of antibiotic degrading enzymes.

In 2020, she moved to the University of Birmingham as a research fellow to work in the laboratory of Prof. Stephen Smerdon. Whilst at Birmingham, Éilís used cryo-Electron Microscopy (cryo-EM), x-ray crystallography and biophysical techniques to characterise the structure and function of chromatin binding proteins and signalling modifications to proteins involved in the repair of damaged DNA.

Éilís joined eBIC in August 2022 as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate using cryo-EM to investigate the structure of bacteriophage-like particles. Her research interests include using cryo-EM and cryo-Electron tomography to study the mechanisms bacteria employ for infection, therapeutic evasion, and manipulation of host cells.
