Charlotte Cordery

Charlotte is a joint PhD student between Diamond Light Source and the University of Southampton. Her project is focused on investigating the structure and function of proteins which are involved in the dispersal of bacterial biofilms in response to redox. Understanding the mechanism of this action and the structures of these proteins allows for developments in treatment of antimicrobial resistant biofilms. These infections are very dangerous, highlighted by the fact that Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm infections are the main cause of death in Cystic Fibrosis sufferers.

The techniques Charlotte currently uses are molecular biology, protein production using E. coli recombinant expression, X-ray crystallography followed by solving protein structure and SAXS.
