Dr Jishizhan Chen

Dr. Jishizhan Chen is an orthopedist and holds a PhD in Orthopaedic Biomaterials. He is currently a Research Fellow at UCL Mechanical Engineering, where he is developing the cutting-edge Tomography-Small Angle X-ray Scattering (Tomo-SAXS) imaging technique and the Human Organ Atlas Hub (HOA-Hub). These two projects aim to link organ-scale, clinical imaging with molecular-scale information. His previous PhD project involved developing an in vitro biomimetic bone liquid crystalline model, which revealed key biological activities and signalling pathways involved in the process of directional mineralisation. This work was accepted for an oral presentation at the SICOT Congress and was awarded the Shimomura/OREF/SICOT Award. He is also the PI of several UK-China international programmes, funded by UCL Global Engagement Funds and the Royal Society-NSFC International Exchanges Scheme. His multidisciplinary background and experience in various topics enable him to conduct a wide range of basic and translational research.
