Jack Bollard

Jack is a joint PhD student between Thorsten at Oxford and Professor Gerrit van der Laan at Diamond Light Source. His research focuses on Ferromagnetic Resonance, in particular the many variants of FMR’s synchrotron counterpart, XFMR. He is the group’s point of contact for Diamond based FMR instrumentation, a unique portable octupole magnetic system. Collaborating between Oxford and Diamond has allowed for use of Oxford’s state-of-the-art growth systems, with Diamonds characterization abilities.

Being based at Research Complex has been imperative to his research, from the collaborations within the group’s office space, to the advanced experimental techniques situated around it, including his use of SEM and TEM, with a particular interest in LTEM. Having access to these electron microscopes has proven essential in a vast number of the group’s beamtimes, as they have allowed for quick characterizations between sample loadings.
