The Rosalind Franklin Institute, led by Director Professor James Naismith, is the UK’s institute for technology development in life science. They utilise their expertise in physical sciences to develop technologies aimed at better understanding human disease and its effects on the body.

The collaboration at Research Complex involves BBSRC funded research on enzyme kinetics (Franklin and Cardiff University) and research by PPUK - a long term resident at Research Complex and cornerstone of sample preparation methods development and innovation internationally.

The Franklin collaborates with other research groups based at Research Complex, including Diamond Light Source, Central Laser Facility, and the universities of Reading and Oxford.

Professor Ray Owens

Researcher

Ray Owens is Head of Protein Production UK, a programme to develop innovative methods for sample preparation for integrated approaches to structural biology in the Rosalind Franklin Institute.

Dr Casper Berger

Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Casper obtained his PhD at the M4I institute in Maastricht, The Netherlands.

Dr Katy Cornish

Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Katy is a postdoctoral research scientist in Professor Ray Owens’ group at the Franklin, working as part of the Nanobody Discovery team and PPUK.

Dr Maud Dumoux

Staff

Maud has a PhD in immunology from Paris 7 Diderot. Prior to working at the Rosalind Franklin Institute, she worked at the Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology and Diamond Light Source, where she was based at Research Complex.

Dr Courtney Mycroft-West

Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Courtney is a Postdoctoral Research Associate based at the Rosalind Franklin Institute, within the laboratory of Dr. Liang Wu, investigating the structure-function relationships that underpin glycosaminoglycan biosynthesis; a crucial class of complex carbohydrates of significant biological and medical importance.

Dr John Sidda

Post-Doctoral Research Associate

John works jointly between the Franklin and Oxford University, studying the signalling pathways underpinning primary sugar metabolism in plants.
