Materials scientists receive accolades from Royal Society of Chemistry

Material scientists working at Research Complex at Harwell have been recognized for their outstanding work by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Dr Chun Ann Huang, Imperial College London, was awarded the prestigious early career Marlow Prize. The RSC noted Dr Huang’s novel use of X-ray Compton scattering-computed tomography (XCS-CT) to study lithium ions within 3D structures.
Dr Huang says:

‘I am humbled to receive this prize. It has been a privilege to work with so many brilliant minds within Materials and across departments at Imperial. This award would never have been possible without my generous colleagues who have helped me. Working with my students, postdocs and collaborators has kept encouraging me to pursue new knowledge in the battery research area.’

Meanwhile Professor Jacqueline Cole, University of Cambridge, was recognised alongside her team for the AI for Materials Project, winning the 2025 Horizon Award. The project has succeeded in creating a chemistry-aware AI tool, and is already being applied to materials research. Included in this award are researchers from Diamond Light Source, ISIS, and Research Complex, including Dr Shaoliang Guan.
