Analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC) is used to study of the behaviour of macromolecules in solution under the influence of a strong gravitational force. AUC can provide information about the size, shape, density and conformational changes of proteins and other macromolecules, as well as the mass and stoichiometry of molecular complexes. Research Complex has two Beckman Coulter analytical ultracentrifuges; an Optima AUC and a ProteomeLab XL-I. Both instruments have two integrated detection systems; Rayleigh Interference and Scanning UV/VISIBLE optics. The Optima AUC offers faster data collection, at higher resolution, and is particularly suited to multi-wavelength experiments.
