Introduction

Abstract:

Following its recognition as one of Science magazine's top 10 breakthroughs in 2018, three-dimensional electron diffraction (3DED), also termed MicroED, has transformed electron crystallography from a specialised niche technique into a prominent methodology within structural science. The widespread adoption of this approach has introduced numerous considerations that crystallographers have not previously encountered, leading to certain misconceptions within the field regarding optimal data processing strategies.

In this presentation, I shall outline key considerations for effective implementation of 3DED, drawing upon insights gained from 25 years of experience in electron crystallography research and development.
