TGA 5500

The TGA 5500 is capable of performing experiments up to 1200°C under nitrogen, air or Argon. You can look at samples that weigh up to a mass of 1000mg, size and density dependent. Additionally, the TGA 5500 is fitted with an autosampler supporting up to 25 samples in one programmed session.

The RCaH hosts two pieces of equipment in Physical Sciences dedicated to thermal analysis of samples, both from Waters. The TGA 5500, which looks at the mass change of the sample over a defined temperature range, which allows you to examine water or volatile compound retention, as well as, other aspects of the material’s thermal decomposition/volatilization or stability. The SDT650 is also capable of Differential Scanning Calorimetry, (please see the equipment page of the SDT650 for details).

Both the TGA 5500 and the SDT 650 are controlled using the Waters Trios software, which allows for fully programable runs data analysis, the data is exportable in various formats for offline examination. The TGA 5500 features the options to connect the outlet to a Mass Spectrometer (MS) to analyse the resultant exhaust gases.
