Spinout company wins prestigious engineering award

CLF spinout Cobalt Light Systems has won the UK's premier engineering prize, the MacRobert Award. It has been recognised for pioneering identification of the chemical composition of liquids sealed in non-metallic containers without opening them. They have developed an airport security scanner that should enable removal of the hand-luggage liquid ban and has been introduced in 65 European airports. The technology originates from CLF ultrafast laser facilities under development at RCaH, with Exeter University and UCL , for non-invasive breast cancer screening and bone disease diagnosis.
