Physics Equipment and Facilities

Eight physics labs are available. They vary in size from 40 to 74 m2; equipped with benches and cupboards. Some physics labs are double height for extra tall machinery. A report detailing vibration measurements in the high bay labs can be found by following this link.

Physics lab equipment includes:

  • Fume hoods
  • Furnaces: 2 Carbolite CWF13 with PID digital control
  • Ultrasonic bath: 2L Grant XB3 and 14L Grant MXB14
  • Rotary Evaporators: Buchi R215; water and dry ice cooling
  • Rocking platform: Stuart SSL3, 3-12 degree tilt
  • Vacuum oven: Binder VD 53
  • Drying oven: Binder ED 53
  • Hot plate stirrer: Stuart SB162

Under consideration:

  • Optical microscope
  • Diamond saw and polishing wheels
  • Glove box dry air
  • Centrifugal concentrator vacuum

Large, specialist equipment in RCaH also available:

TEM, SEM, NMR, Analytical ultracentrifuge, etc.
