Agilent Technologies Acquires Raman Spectroscopy Innovator, Cobalt Light Systems

Cobalt Light Systems, a spin-out from research undertaken at STFC’s Rutherford Appleton Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH) and more recently within the Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH), has been acquired by analytical laboratory technologies firm Agilent Technologies. RCaH’s resident Prof. Pavel Matousek has acted as its Chief Scientific Officer from its formation in 2008. Cobalt is a world leader in specialist laser-based detection systems. It has recently committed to a 10-year lease on a new headquarters at the rapidly growing Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire UK and will become Agilent’s global centre for Raman spectroscopy. Cobalt’s customers include many of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies and major global airports, and the company is expanding its markets in security and law enforcement, customs and borders protection, and emergency services.
