RCaH researcher wins prize

Stephen Carr has won the David Blow Memorial prize for best poster in the Biological Structures Group at the 2012 annual meeting of the British Crystallographic Association. Stephen presented his research on the structure of MHF proteins, which work in cells both to repair damaged DNA and to control the DNA when cells divide. Faults in this system can lead to the genetic disease Fanconi anaemia. The award includes a trophy made of large Blue John crystals from a mine in Derbyshire, which will remain on display at RCaH for a year.
